A critique of the apocalyptic climate narrative
According to the Apocalyptic climate narrative, humanity faces an existential threat from global warming that can be averted only by aggressive suppression of fossil-fuel use. The narrative has been promoted by environmental activists, prominent politicians, and the United Nations for more than three decades and has been accepted as gospel truth by many citizens of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and other wealthy countries.
Alarming narratives that have an aura of plausibility can be highly effective tools for shaping public opinion and public policies. When such narratives are false or seriously misleading, they can do significant damage because of unintended consequences of their policy prescriptions. For example, an alarming narrative—rooted in a false, but plausible-sounding, analogy between the risks of nuclear power plants and nuclear bombs—helped turn public opinion against nuclear power and thereby induced much greater use of coal over the last 50 or so years.1 The substitution of coal for nuclear power shortened millions of lives (due to greater air pollution) and led to higher CO2 emissions than would have otherwise occurred.
These unintended consequences of the anti-nuclear-power narrative should make us think carefully before the United States goes too far down the energy path prescribed by the Apocalyptic climate narrative.

Tree-ring stable isotopes from the European Alps reveal long-term summer drying over the Holocene
Here, we use 7437 stable oxygen (δ18O) isotope ratios extracted from 192 living and relict Alpine trees to reconstruct trends and extremes in European summer hydroclimate from 8980 before the present to 2014 Common Era. Our continuous tree-ring δ18O record reveals a significant long-term drying trend over much of the Holocene (P < 0.001), which is in line with orbital forcing and independent evidence from proxy reconstructions and model simulations. Wetter conditions in the early-to-mid Holocene coincide with the African Humid Period, whereas the most severe summer droughts of the past 9000 years are found during the Little Ice Age in the 18th and 19th centuries Common Era. We suggest that much of Europe was not only warmer but also wetter during most of the preindustrial Holocene, which implies a close relationship between insolation changes and long-term hydroclimate trends that likely affected natural and societal systems across a wide range of spatiotemporal scales.

Far-left anarchists have claimed responsibility for sabotage attacks on electrical systems and causing power outages in Southern France over the weekend, including at the Cannes Film Festival.
Posting on the far-left online platform IndyMedia, an anonymous group of anarcho-radicals claimed to have sabotaged key electrical infrastructure over the weekend, which left around 160,00 people without power in the Alpes-Maritimes department and around 45,000 in Nice.
The suspected sabotage attacks began in the late hours of Friday evening and continued through Sunday, briefly impacting the closing of the Cannes Film Festival, which the leftist arsonists branded an “obscene ceremony by a sea that has become a refugee cemetery.”

In all dem Getöse um die Liquidierung der Schuldenbremse und um die neuen Milliardenschulden ist eines weitaus unbeachtet geblieben: Das Festschreiben der sogenannten Klimaneutralität bis 2045 in die Verfassung.
Dieser auf Druck der Grünen aufgenommene, völlig abwegige und irrwitzige Passus hat jetzt Verfassungsrang und ermöglicht jedem ein Klagerecht, wenn er meint, dass für dieses Ziel nicht genug getan wird. Ein riesiges Betätigungsfeld für unterbeschäftigte Rechtsanwälte und für vom Steuerzahler finanzierte Verbände und Vereine tut sich da auf. Erscheint es uns heute noch völlig aberwitzig, dass ein Bauer aus Peru RWE verklagen kann, weil ein Gletschersee in Peru droht überzulaufen, werden derartige Klagen künftig die Regel werden und unsere schon jetzt mit der ‚Asylindustrie‘ überforderte Justiz völlig lahmlegen. Straftäter dagegen dürfen auf Verjährung der Anklagefristen hoffen und unbehelligt bleiben.
Wie unrealistisch diese Zielstellung ist und wie die Verfassung durch derartige Klauseln immer mehr zu einem überbordenden Papiertiger verkommt, mögen die folgenden Fakten belegen:
